Septic patients require ongoing evaluation to assess the need for continued fluid administration following initial resuscitation. This evaluation should based on objective measures to avoid the risk of fluid accumulation and potential harm to the patients. Multiple studies have shown that fluid overload is as harmful as tissue hypoperfusion and can cause prolonged ventilation, progression of acute kidney injury (AKI), and increased mortality.
